About Copenhagen Classic
From auction to passion in a time of crisis
Søren Stage does what most people just think about. In the 1980s, he built up a chain of photo shops, and in 2004 he became a partner in the auction company Lauritz.com, which at the same time became a springboard to cultivate the passion for classic Danish furniture design to the fullest. In 2004 Søren Stage started INsign Company, which later became the current Copenhagen Classic, and at the same time as the name change, the doors were opened to a 1,200 m2 large showroom with furniture, art, ceramics and antiques in Herlev near Copenhagen. Today, the company has a turnover of double-digit millions to buyers all over the world and is now run by Søren Stage together with his son, Anders Stage, who has inherited his father's interest in the stylish, classic design.
Life is lived on through the classics
“It is fantastic to create new life in the old Danish classics. It is all the pleasure and to that extent the great passion that makes it possible to nurture the large network that is needed to be able to get the coveted Danish classics at all, ”says Søren Stage. He and his son, Anders, drive about 7-10,000 km themselves per month around Denmark, where they visit estates, companies and private individuals who have furniture and other Danish design that they want to sell. We like to spend a lot of resources on the old furniture, both on upholstery as well as other renovations, and therefore we are interested in all classics regardless of condition.
Renovation with tenderness and respect
When you are near one of the design classics, you are in no doubt about the quality in both design and craftsmanship. Therefore, it is important for us that any renovation takes place with respect for the thoughts that were originally behind the furniture. Here the furniture is in good hands and gets the treatment they deserve before moving on.
Interest is rising
We have built up a large international network of buyers for Danish design, and with these contacts we can almost always achieve better sales prices than it is possible to get in Denmark and to trade with other local design and art dealers. Through our web shop and ads on international design pages, we are experiencing an increasing number of visitors to the website. In addition, we receive many inquiries daily from interested buyers - both from Denmark, Europe, Asia and the USA. We therefore currently have a large file of buyers for furniture and lamps, which we do not currently have in stock. Interested readers are therefore more than welcome to contact us if they have a "classic" lying in their attic or left in the cottage.
