Bang was a trained sculptor and ceramic designer at the Academy of Fine Arts best known on both a national and international level for his stoneware, silver and tin. Together with his brother, Jacob E. Bang, Arne Bang was apprenticed to the sculptor Niels Hansen from 1917-19. Through this teaching, Bang gained his sense of materials and their possibilities.

In 1925, Bang was with his brother in Paris, where they worked with the architect, Kay Fiskers, construction of the Danish pavilion for the world exhibition. The trip to Paris introduced Bang to modern European decorative art.

Bang's popularity in Danish handicrafts stems from his close collaboration with Carl Halier (1873-1948), a trained turner. They established their workshop, Copenhagen's Stoneware Distillery, in 1926. One of the highlights from this time is the Tycho Brahe jar (1927) with the zodiac signs as a motif and a deep navy blue glaze. Bang and Halier raised their product quality when they added Holmegaard Glasværk as artistic director in 1929. The starting point was to produce high-quality stoneware that fit the budget of the large audience;

"It was our goal to get the stoneware down in a price, so that it will not be for collectors alone, but in such a way that the general public can get hold of it."

Their stoneware consisted of vases, jugs, bowls, jam jars, and animal figurines. High quality combined with unusually low prices caused their popularity to increase.

It is in the 1937 catalog that Arne Bang's famous fluted jars penetrate and become a national classic. In 1940, Bang's The Fallen Warrior was erected at Vestre Kirkegård as a memorial to those who fell during Denmark's occupation on April 9, 1940. In the same year, Bang drew the Christmas mark, where a white dove with a green twig in its beak and a white star on a blue background was the motive. The Christmas mark became a symbol of Denmark's desire for peace in the world. Bang also drew the Christmas stamp for the years 1944 (burning candle = hope for the end of the war) and 1946 (Advent wreath = symbol of a safe united community).

A large part of Bang's remains consisted of reliefs. They expressed Bang's graphic abilities and willingness to pass on traditions. Bang was a multifaceted artist with his geometric ceramics, classical sculptures and decorative figures.
