Børge Mogensen was a trained carpenter, was trained as a furniture designer at the School of Crafts in Copenhagen and then he graduated in architecture in 1941 from the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts' Furniture School, which was led by Kaare Klint.
Børge Mogensen was one of the most influential designers in the post-war period, and was Fredericia Furniture's first house designer. His focus was to create durable and functional furniture that could last for generations. He managed to create robust furniture thanks to the use of high quality materials and strict production requirements.
Mogensen started as head of FDB in 1942, where the goal was to create quality furniture according to human form and needs.
In 1950, Mogensen established his own design studio and in 1952, the collaboration began with interior designer and businessman, Andreas Graversen, who in 1955 took over Fredericia Furniture A/S. It was during their collaboration that some of Børge Mogensen's most recognized furniture was created.
About BM 2212/2213:
The motivation behind the sofas was to design the ultimate sofa for his own home, as Børge Mogensen did in 1962. Børge Mogensen was a tall man, so the BM 2213 sofa had to be big enough for him to lie down. The sofas are designed with a visual clarity without unnecessary embellishments - a style that characterized Børge Mogensen's entire career.
