The different leather types

Are you wondering what the difference is between the different types of leather we offer? Then you can read a brief overview of what aniline, semi-aniline and classic leather are.

The structure of the leather

  1. Upper leather: The strongest part of the leather.

  2. Upper: Where the skin is split into layers and has no flexibility and impaired durability.

Aniline leather:

Leather that is only tanned and possibly colored, and where the surface is completely natural and with open pore holes. The leather is thus completely breathable and with the best seating comfort. Characterized by the fact that it patinates, is susceptible to grease and dirt and only gets nicer with time.

Semi-aniline leather:

Leather that is only tanned, dyed and then treated with a light surface finish. The surface is natural with pore holes that are partially open and still visible and breathable. Characterized by the fact that it is lightly covered, semi-breathable, has medium lightfastness, provides good seating comfort, is easy to maintain and also only gets nicer with time. One can say that it is an in-between leather quality of Aniline and Classic leather.

Leather with a protected surface (Classic):

Leather that is only tanned, heavily topped and finished with a finish on top. The surface may be natural, but the surface is most often corrected and still a bit breathable. Characterized by the leather being completely protected, high lightfastness, very easy to clean and strong with varying seating comfort and breathability.
